A Gospel Community on a Word and Spirit journey.
NEAR EAST-FAR EAST is our desire to remind people that God’s call for the Great Commission is both local and global. Jesus has commanded us to sow and harvest gospel fruit in our own zip code (our Jerusalem) and the uttermost parts of the earth.
As a result we have embarked on a process that hopefully gives a more complete understanding of the Great Commission. What traditional “missions trips” tend to do is to take a group of people out of their context, language and comfort zone, take them to a foreign land where they have an opportunity to serve, minister, and share Christ’s love and message through word and deed. Though there is nothing wrong with that we want to add the component of accepting our responsibility for the local.
NEAR EAST
We have a relational partnership with a Jody and Vanessa Romero that lead a church in East LA called Bella Vista Church. Part of their vision is to transform their community by providing a free tutoring center for kids from the inner city public school system. There are 3 opportunities to serve this church, the weekends of the 11th, 18th or 25th of June 2011. Saturday 9am – Sunday 5pm. There IS NO COST FOR NEAR EAST Bella Vista church will host us for the weekend.
We also have partners that have planted churches in the FAR EAST. In Singapore, Simon and Taryn Murphy (Redemption Hill Church) have planted a church that partners with other friends that lead churches in Cambodia. We will be going to Singapore to learn and to serve a church in the interior of Cambodia that also runs an orphanage, Bible College and local pastors training and is also in the midst of planting another church and orphanage.
As Christ followers our lives have been irrevocably changed by the undeserved grace that God through His son has given us. We have been ransomed and rescued and as a result we acknowledge that we are not our own. We belong to Him. His story is to be told, not just with words but with actions.
