13th Documentary Discussion
July 6, 2020 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
What is racial injustice? Why does America have the highest incarceration rate in the world? Why will 1 in 3 black men in our country spend time behind bars?
In an effort to continue productive conversations around race and injustice, Antwone Barns and Stacie MacDonald will be leading a discussion on the 2016 documentary 13th in which Filmmaker Ava DuVernay explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans. Whether you are well aware or newly acquainted with America’s history of racial injustice, our hope is that the film leads to humble and honest conversation around issues of race in our nation.
